Waiting on a Baby Name

by Shasta Emerity

Phoenix Smiles At The World

Phoenix Smiles At The World

I've always been a procrastinator in my own way,

I’m definitely not the girl who’s had her favorite baby names picked out since she was seven years old.

Nine months of pregnancy had flown past by the time I'd started to worry if my baby would remain nameless. I'd read countless books but just could not make up my mind, let alone come up with a top three names list.

Then from the clearance movie bin at the local supermarket came the best movie any pregnant woman could ask for. It had passion, sadness, loss, and real love.

It's name is “Griffin & Phoenix” staring Amanda Peet and Dermot Mulroney. Even now it continues to bring tears of joy to my face every time I watch it.

I fell in love with this movie, like I no doubt would fall deeply in love with my baby.

And so it would be, if a girl her name would be Phoenix Marie, after my great grandmother; if a boy, Griffin Lee, for his father's grandfather.

On August 24th ,2009 at 11:26am, Phoenix Marie was born.

I couldn’t have picked a better name.
