Potty Hat

by Kim
(Newburgh, Indiana, USA)

"Potty Hat"

My daughter, now 32 months old has finally got the potty training down pat!

It took us a while to get here but she has gotten the hang of it now. I am so excited.

For the longest time I have been using a potty time chart with stickers and awards once she got so many. I still use that simply because I love it when she reaches the end of the row and says "Ok, gotta go to mall-mart. Gotta get a pize" LOL..

Changing from small potty chair to the the one that goes on the big potty, still nothing seemed to work. And of course we have always had the potty time song to sing when she went potty.

That's always the best part! At least the most fun any way.

Well, my daughter decided to improve that just a bit. I guess it wasn't enough entertainment for her.

One day while we were doing our little potty time song and dancing around the bathroom, all of a sudden she grabs her small potty seat off the big toilet and says "I need my hat." She puts her potty seat on her head and continues singing the potty song and dancing around the room.

I was laughing hysterically at this point. I grabbed the camera in time but the camcorder wasn't working unfortunately. I am sure we could have won with that on Funniest Home Video's.

From then on every time she went potty and we started the potty song, she just had to use the "hat."

Eventually, I got tired of having to clean it off before each song. I thought the potty hat was kind of gross after the first time.

I decided to show her how she can sit on the big potty like mommy. This way she could sit on the potty and keep her potty hat germ free.

She loved that!

Except now she actually has to wear the "potty hat" the entire time she goes potty.

That goes on before the pants even come down.

At least I have found what works in potty training my daughter!

It is a good option

Good story.

I have also tried things like making a schedule for my son, persuading him at scheduled times, etc. but nothing seems to work.

I shall try potty hat or similar interesting items.

Kids adapt fast to what interests them.

Hope it works for me as well.

Kids are so creative

Kim,

I just read your Potty Hat story and I agree that whatever works for potty training is great for us parents, but the potty hat is a bit gross - Perhaps she can get a new hat next time you go to 'Mall-Mart' for 'pize'.

My daughter used to walk around the house with flippers on her feet and a book bag as her hat and pretend she was a space alien.

Kids certainly are creative.

Nice story - thanks
