Working on the Time Machine
Last year, my seven-year-old daughter Josie said,
"I want to invent a Time Machine with you, when I'm older, so we can spend more time together."
So, now that's she's older…
that's exactly what were going to do.
We're going build a time machine together.
Do you want to know how?
Okay, first we find a special keepsake box.
Then, we take a picture and fold it….
Wait a second!
If I teach you how to make a time machine,
do you promise not to build a time machine?
Or tell anyone else how to build a time machine?
Because, if you and you tell you, and then you and you and you build a time machine, and then you and you and you and you and you and everyone else makes their own time machines…
then the whole world will come unglued like a cheap book as everyone turns their lives' pages,
as they flip back and forth through time,
pulling the universe's spine inside out,
rewriting the words that have already been written, and adding new ones before their time.
So, don't make a time machine, okay?
'Cause it will mess up life, the universe, and our story.
And remember, it's a secret!
"But dad, if you tell everyone, then it's not a secret.
You're right, Josie.
We can't trust them.
So I'll just tell the story of how to make a time machine between the beat of two seconds so no one can hear it.
Okay, you see here's the secret of how to make a time machine.
All you need to do is… TICK
TOCK … and that's how you build a time machine.
