“Think of giving not as a duty but as a privilege." John D. Rockefeller (1839-1937) |
Parenting Guest Authors – For a Website dedicated to 'All Things Parenting', what could be greater than that? Welcome to an exciting addition to the Preteen Thru Teenage Parenting Action Guide - Our Guest Author Series!!
We are VERY pleased to bring you this unique addition to our lineup of quality content, pictures, quotes, forums, and ALL THINGS PARENTING! We now add to the list above the opportunity to have visiting Guest Authors share with us quality parenting articles completely of the Guest Author’s own choosing. Sometimes there will be a single article, sometimes two or three, but always of the highest quality and always relevant to the world of quality parenting information. We anticipate that this Guest Author series will debut a new Guest Author every three to four months, or thereabouts. We firmly believe that there are no ‘one right answers’ in the realm of parenting, yet every piece of parenting wisdom we share with you is vital to the overall picture of healthy and effective parenting. Every child and every family and every parent is unique in their own ways. The more often we can read what other parents have to say about how they approach parenting, the better educated and better equipped we ourselves as parents will be. For this reason we will be featuring Guest Authors from all walks of life, within all the various stages of their parenting roles and experiences. And finally, I would like to publicly thank (in a very general way) the source of my inspiration for this Guest Author series. You see, the secret source of my inspiration came from a reader just like you who shared a Parenting Forum Story that so inspired and lifted me that it left me hungry for more. Upon reading their parenting story I said to myself: “Wow. That parent is remarkable and I would LOVE to hear more of what they have to say about any and all things parenting.” Right there and then, as with a flash of pure inspiration, this Guest Author series was born. So please keep your parenting stories and comments coming as they are an inspiration to us all! It is when we roll up our sleeves and participate in the process of sharing our parenting wisdom that WE truly grow and learn the most, and we very often help a great many other parents along the way. So with that, sit back, relax, and enjoy this wonderful addition to the parenting wisdom and education offered here at the Preteen Thru Teenage Parenting Action Guide. We proudly present to you the Parenting Guest Author Series.

Guest Author No. 3 - Mr. Larry Bradley, M.A., MFT
Larry and his family have recently moved to a southern Utah community having relocated from outside Los Angeles, California. Larry and his wife have six children; one daughter and five sons, ranging from age 23 down to age 8. They chose St. George because of its climate and variety of outdoor activities; as well as they were looking for a more family friendly environment and just more open space.
While in California, Larry built and continues to maintain a restoration business that specializes in historic buildings. That business was started in 2000 and provided enough income to allow his return to college.
He completed his undergraduate work at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) in Psychology and then did his Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy across the street from CSUF at Hope International University (HIU).
Larry says that he chose HIU because they were one of only four Graduate Programs that offered an AAMFT Accredited curriculum in Southern California. He also chose HIU because the training he received reflected his core values in integrating what the latest research demonstrates as well as promoting the principles taught by Christ in helping people find the happiness they seek.
Prior to his move to St. George, Larry worked simultaneously in youth residential facility settings, facilitated group therapy under the PC1000 program, a court mandated drug and alcohol course, and worked in a private practice in Whittier, California.
Larry’s focus consists of helping people develop better intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, as is the case with all marriage and family therapists. One aspect that helps achieve this goal is the communication process. Larry has taught the “Core-Communication” curriculum for three years, the standard in communication skills training in the field of therapy.
Larry also attends annually the UCLA Conference on Attachment Issues and has received extensive training in the neurological science and therapeutic interventions that allow people the ability to grow close to another person, in spite of years of setbacks and/or related trauma.
One unique therapeutic intervention that Larry brings to ASUCE is being certified in EMDR, a process consisting of bi-lateral stimulation of the neo-cortex, which has been shown to be the best treatment for all forms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Other models of therapy enjoined in his practice are Experiential Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. Experiential Therapy consists of the core belief that inherently every person is designed with the internal strength and capacity to heal and improve. Solution Focused Therapy is designed to take one’s inherent ability to reflect and perceive what they want different in their lives and then provide the strategy to achieve those differences.
